Bonnie Robin (For Patti)

Bonnie Robin

Robin:green

I saw a bonnie robin perch

atop a berry bush

Regal and serene she looked

Her plumage bright and lush

She sang a chirp and cheery song

That lifted up my heart

For that bonnie little robin

Showed-up on winter’s back.

Author’s note. I always thought this was too beautiful for myself to have written, and worried that maybe I’d remembered it from childhood??? I wrote it 20-odd years ago and I’ve searched to see if I could find an original version, but I haven’t. So, I’m sharing it with this disclaimer just in case.   :-)

And the rest of the story? When our son was born (April) there was a little robin who came and either sat on the bush right outside our window or on the window-sill of our bedroom (yes, baby-bear slept in our room) every morning for two weeks straight. He sang like a linty, and I used to hold BB up to the window so he could see the little birdy. I always thought that little bird was a gift from God. Anyhoo, that’s where/when this poem was conceived.

Lovely post. We have few Sparrows nested outside our dining room and each time we are in the dining room, they love it so much that they start chirping. Their loud, trilling sounds are part of our dining entertainment. Jo :-)

Thanks Jo. Haha, dinner AND a show! :-)

I love the sound of birds chirping. I live in south Texas and being one of the top birding-centers of the world we get all kinds of wonderful little creatures flitting and trilling here. I’m so happy right now that it is still cool enough to open my windows and enjoy the show. :-)
