I dragged hubby to see the movie Brave last week, and while we both enjoyed the movie, which is very funny in parts, we were a little disappointed. It just lacks something, but neither of us could put a finger on what that was. A lot of the lines are spoken so fast and are heavily colloquial that even I had a tough time trying to decipher what was said. And I thought the soundtrack of the movie sounded more like a backstreet country mix from Nashville than Celtic folk music. That’s It! I think the something missing from this movie might be authenticity. This is definitely a Cookie-Cutter-American-Disney movie. It lacks heart. All that said, the kids in the theater, of which there were many, laughed heartily the whole way through the movie. And let’s face it this movie was made for children.
And finally, many reviewers have already said this, but I’m going to say it again, Merida’s hair is worth the ticket price alone. Whoever came up with the style, color, and volume of her locks deserves an award just for that beautiful masterpiece.
On a side note, I thought Merida was saying, “Christ!’ as a cuss word in her frustration. (at 1.30 into the trailer.) But it was, “Curse this dress!” Oh well then, that’s no so bad!
