Waiting For The Repairman!

I hate waiting in for repair men! I’m busy trying to get ready to go to Scotland, and it seems that everything I need to take care of I need to take care of personally. I have appointments in town (30 mins away) today and tomorrow. But, my range has decided to play-up. One of the stove top burners overheats. If I put it on simmer at 2. It understands, boil the pan bone-dry, and melt it into oblivion!

I know what you are thinking, replace the coil! Been there and done that. The same thing happened with the new coil. We bought an extended warranty with Lowe’s when we bought the range. Thankfully the warranty does not end until Feb 2012. But, as I’m leaving first thing Monday (4 am) I need the repair man to get here today! Lowe’s tells me that there will be a repair man out between 8 and 12 tomorrow. I call the repair man’s number and he tells me, oh, I don’ think we’ll get out to it tomorrow.

So, I’ve now been waiting all morning long for them to call back and let me know if they can come tomorrow. Yes, I’ve been getting things done as I’m waiting, but I’d other plans. It’s like being taken hostage. I’ve no choice but to wait and be thankful when or if they do show up.

Bummer! Talk to the service manager at Lowes. It is wrong to keep you hostage. Time to go to the boss. If he does nothing then go to next person up. Customer service is the name of the game in retail.

I hear you! It is really disrespectful of the consumer. Other people make appointments and keep them, why can’t they — because they overbook and run out of time. Kind of like the doctor’s office! I agree with Patricia – say, let me speak to your boss. If they give you guff, ask to speak to their boss… If you are a big enough pain, occasionally they listen. Then again…… Hope it works out. I feel your pain Elizabeth. I never have understood why any repairman can’t schedule a better time, and then actually make that time. The last time I had to wait for someone they said it would be anywhere from 8 – 5 that day, yes, all day long! And then he calls at like 4:45 to say he’ll be a couple more hours. It’s ridiculous.
Anyway, I hope that by now your stove is fixed and you can relax a bit before your trip. Have fun!

As feared Mr. Repairman called and stated that there was no-one available in my area to repair my stove. So now we are looking at getting it fixed when I return. Poor hubby will have to use the dreaded microwave for dinner. He’ll survive, hopefully :)

Probably too late for this, but let customer service know you are going to bill them for all the meals you eat in restaurants until the stove is properly repaired. And bill them for all of them during your trip.

Overheating isn’t the coil, it’s the controls. If you have a dial control for each coil the problem is probably a bad rheostat to which the knob is attached. If you have push buttoncontrols it is most likely a circuit board or other discrete component.

    Have a great trip!
